Tools›Ingredient Checker›E306 Tocopherols (Vitamin E)

Is E306 (Tocopherols (Vitamin E)) Halal?

Our assessment

Doubtful — depends on source

E306 (Tocopherols / Vitamin E) is an antioxidant usually extracted from vegetable oils; most commercial Vitamin E is soy-derived and halal, but the carrier and source can vary, so it is treated as doubtful unless confirmed.

Also known asTocopherolsMixed tocopherolsVitamin E

What is E306?

Tocopherols are a group of compounds that make up vitamin E, used as antioxidants to stop fats and oils going rancid. Food-grade E306 is normally extracted from vegetable oils such as soybean, sunflower or palm.

Recovered from vegetable-oil processing (deodoriser distillates) and concentrated. The tocopherols themselves are plant-derived, though any carrier oil used to dilute them can vary.

Why is it doubtful (mushbooh)?

Tocopherols are generally from vegetable oils, which points to halal, but they are classed as doubtful because the carrier oil used with them (and, rarely, the wider process) can vary and is seldom stated. The great majority of commercial Vitamin E is soy- or sunflower-derived and halal; for certainty, look for certification.

How to verify a product in Singapore

  1. Ingredient-level guidance is not halal certification — check the complete product, not just this ingredient.
  2. Look for recognised halal certification, and check the finished product on the official MUIS HalalSG register.
  3. When the source or processing aids are unclear, contact the manufacturer.

In Singapore, verify the finished product on the MUIS HalalSG register or contact the manufacturer if the source or carrier is unclear.
