What is E110?

Sunset Yellow FCF is a synthetic orange-yellow colouring from the azo-dye family, manufactured industrially from petrochemical feedstocks. It has no plant, animal or insect source.

Produced by chemical synthesis (diazotisation and coupling of sulphonated aromatics). No animal-derived materials in the standard process.

Why is it generally halal?

As a fully synthetic colour with no animal or alcohol component, E110 is generally classified as halal at the ingredient level. The finished product still needs its own verification — a halal colour does not certify the product.

How to verify a product in Singapore

  1. Ingredient-level guidance is not halal certification — check the complete product, not just this ingredient.
  2. Look for recognised halal certification, and check the finished product on the official MUIS HalalSG register.
  3. When the source or processing aids are unclear, contact the manufacturer.

Ingredient guidance is not certification. Verify the finished product on the MUIS HalalSG register or with the manufacturer.
